The Outer Hebrides
The Outer Hebrides include Lewis, Harris, North and South Uist, Benbecula and Barra and benefit from a rich culture and history dating back to well before the days of estate agencies and law firms!
The Outer Hebrides lie in a crescent shape approximately 40 miles off the north west coast of Scotland. In total they measure 130 miles long with a varied backdrop of scenery including white beaches and rugged prehistoric landscapes, these islands are relatively unspoilt and have been kept somewhat of a hidden gem.
Lewis is the largest island being dependant in the main upon weaving, fishing, crofting and tourism. The main port of Stornoway has a steadily rising population and the area benefits from a range of hotels, bars, restaurants and services unequalled throughout the remaining Western Isles.
On travelling from Stornoway in an easterly direction you reach the Eye peninsula to an area known as Point. Travelling north east up the coastline from Stornoway brings you to Back and north west to Ness. Travelling back west leads to the historic sites of Doune Carloway and Callanish in the area known as West Side and then Bernera & Uig, famous for extensive and beautiful sandy beaches. From here, crossing back over the centre of the island takes you to the aptly named Lochs area. Travelling further afield will bring you to Harris and over the sea to Uist.
